The malignant breast tumor is the most serious and rather common disease of the mammary gland organ. It not only influences the breasts themselves but also threatens the life of the patients. The breasts are regarded as the source of latex and the symbol of feminine beauty. With the development of our era, the breasts have an increasing value in the position of the beauty of human body. The disaster brought by breast cancer should not be underestimated.

        In the meantime when human beings are proud of the beauty of their breasts, they should have to be alert that maybe the disaster caused by breast diseases are approaching silently. Due to the complicated social activities, the increasing mental burden, the changing reproductive perceptions, the degeneration of breast feeding capacity, the too delicate food, the reduction of physical activities, and the urbanization of the life styles, etc, it has been estimated in a conservative way that the number of the new patients with breast cancer throughout the world in one year has surpassed 1.2 million, more than 500 thousand patients die of this kind of disease, and one patient dies of breast cancer in every ten minutes.

        Facing this cruel reality, we know that although the operation, chemotherapy, radiotherapy and other treating methods in western style can extend the lives of some of the patients in the early or middle stage of breast cancer, every one is clear about the physical and mental pains the patients have suffered during the treating process. Clinical studies have shown a harsh fact that most of the patients without lymph node metastasis finally died of remote metastasis and this proves that the hematogenous metastasis is another important route for the metastasis of breast cancer. So we realized that to treat breast cancer we must pay attention to the primary lesion (including the local lymphatic metastasis) as well as the hematogenous metastasis of the patients simultaneously.

        Studies have proved that the breast cancer itself is malignant tumor liable for hematogenous metastasis, so clinically it should be diagnosed and treated in the same way as what we do with systematic diseases. The development and formation of the malignant cells of breast cancer is a lengthy process. Among those patients coming here for treatment, more than 50% of them had hematogenous metastasis for a long time. While the current methods for diagnosis can not correctly locate and find out this. In addition, the methods of operation and radiotherapy can only change the local status around the malignant disease of the patient, while the basis and internal environment for the generation of breast cancer can not be completely improved. Therefore, after the primary lesions are completely eliminated, the tiny metastasis hidden inside the patient's body will continue to grow. For example, honeysuckle had been regarded as "magic herbs for surgery" by ancient Chinese, and it can clear heat, detoxicate, and cure sore and carbuncle. The common dosage of honeysuckle is 9-16 grams and according to Collection of Prescription, its dosage was 150 grams. However, after the experiments made by ourselves, we decide the amount of honeysuckle in our "Breast Rock Soup" to be 160 grams. Another example is Caulis Sargentodoxae, which tastes bitter, has mild characters, and is able to clear heat, detoxicate, and cure sore and carbuncle. Its conventional dosage is 15-30 grams, while we prescribe it in our formula at the amount of 50 grams.

        The ancients had said: "The miracle principle in prescribing medicine is the same as how a general arranges his soldiers.         Traditional Chinese medicine theories stated that "bumps are swellings; tumors are what stays still. Tumors formed by swelling, staying in a specific spot and not disappearing are called cancer." The book named The Etiquettes in Zhou Dynasty in the era before the Qin Dynasty divided doctors to four types: "food doctors", "disease doctors", "ulcer doctors", and "veterinarians". Among them the "ulcer doctors" were responsible for treating "swellings and ulcers", which included the cancer in nowadays.         In addition, according to a book named Assembly of Curing and Recovering Methods for Surgical Diseases in Qing Dynasty, it divided the surgical diseases into two types: Yin and Yang, for example, carbuncles are yang while gangrenes are Yin. It opposed to treat Yin symptoms with the method of cooling and fire-cleaning, while advocated the method of "using Yang to harmonize the body and dredging the striae, and warming and supplementing Qi and blood". In Qing Dynasty, Yu Xinhong proposed the idea of "the disease of Qi can cause the disease of breast" in Surgical Medical Assembly, which further emphasized the important function of dredging Qi in the treatment of breast diseases. Furthermore, a lot of famous traditional Chinese doctors accumulated very precious experiences and theoretical knowledge for the prevention and treatment of breast diseases after long time of clinical practice and research. These also provided us with some correct experience and methods for the prevention and treatment of breast diseases with traditional Chinese medicine and pharmacology.

        Based on the experience and theories of our ancestors, we found, after many years of clinical treatment and observation on breast cancer, that there are both Yin symptoms and Yang symptoms during the process of the breast cancer from its beginning to the advanced stage. Therefore, according to our analysis we think the losing of the balance between the Yin and Yang of the human body is the key factor for the occurrence of breast cancer. The Inner Canon of the Yellow Emperor said: "Yin and Yang are the rule of the universe, the discipline for all creation, the parents for changes, the root for birth and death, and the home of spirit…to cure disease we must pursue the help from the root ".

        Inspired by this, our researching institute believes that Yin and Yang must be regulated and adjusted in order to treat breast cancers. We referred to "Xianfang Huoming Yin", the ancient Chinese prescription which treated surgical ulcers and carbuncles by clearing heat, detoxicating, dissolving swellings and relieving pains, as well as "Yanghe Soup", the ancient Chinese prescription which treated Yin carbuncles by warming and supplementing Yang Qi, eliminating phlegm and dissolving condensations. We made some changes to the amount of the herbs in these two prescriptions, combined them, and integrated our own clinical findings. That is to say, we developed the ancient theories and harmonized them with new knowledge. After tremendous times of experiments, finally we succeeded in the research of the "Breast Rock Soup" comprised of 68 kinds of herbs.

        According to our knowledge about the treating mechanism of breast cancer mentioned above and after repetitive experiments, we finally decided to form the "Breast Rock Soup" with 68 kinds of herbs the main elements of which are astragalus, the roots of Chinese angelica, pangolin scales, stalactite, white mustard seed and honeysuckle. This formula can regulate Yin Qi and Yang Qi, supplement Positive Qi and defeat Malicious Qi. Applying this formula to internal and external parts can help the patients in the early and middle stage of breast cancer to soften and dissolve the tumor tissues, reverse the cancer cells to normal cells and thus achieve the effect of balancing Yin Qi and Yang Qi as well as curing both the symptoms and the root diseases. As to those patients in the advanced stage of breast cancer, this formula can relieve pains, enhance the living quality, and extend their lives. There are also some cases that this formula reversed the cancer and the patients in the advanced stage gained recovery.

        1. We take a series of measures, such as regulating emotions, dredging the stagnated liver Qi, promoting blood circulation and removing blood stasis, as well as dissolving phlegm and softening bumps, to achieve the state of the balancing Yin and Yang, thus cure the disease. If it is interpreted in modern medical theories, we can say that the formulation of herbs with this special technique has bidirectional regulating functions inside the human body. It can not only enhance the human body's the immunity and ability to resist cancer, but also directly eliminate cancer cells and thus achieve the balance between Yin and Yang, as well as the recovery of the body.

        III. In order to be responsible for the patients, the patients must come to our hospital in person for their first visit to the doctors and prescriptions. The patients with malignant breast cancer must live in the hospital for observation for 1-2 courses of treatment. They can not go back to their own homes and take medicines by themselves for recovery until the bumps are obviously softened, all the symptoms are tending to be normal, and the patients can really be willing to cooperate with the treatment according to the directions of the doctors.         Mrs. Chen, a patient in Hangzhou, was diagnosed as having advanced breast cancer and received hospitalized treatment in The Second Hospital of Zhejiang Province. The laboratory test showed that there was cancer metastasis in 20 lymph nodes. After surgical operation, her physical fitness was very week and could not walk. She was also in a very bad status of immunity and needs special care for her daily common life. At that time some doctors asserted that she could survive for 1-2 years at most after returning home from the hospital. The patient and her family members were in extreme anxiety and they went to many hospitals looking for good methods but only failed every time. Finally they got to know our researching institute and our technique of treating breast cancer with traditional Chinese medicine, so they came to our hospital due to our good reputation. After taking the medicine for one month, the mental status of the patient was greatly improved, all symptoms were relieved, and the patient could move without the help from others; after taking the medicine for four months, the patient had plenty of black hair and discarded her wigs; and after taking the medicine for six months, she was able to walk, wash clothes, cook, and take care of her own life all by herself. In addition, after the reexamination by the Second Hospital of Zhejiang Province, all indexes were normal. The patient and her whole family are very grateful to us.

        Mrs. Pan, from Zhejiang University, found breast mass in her body and this was diagnosed by professional hospital as advanced breast cancer with the metastasis of 13/14 of the upper axillary lymph and 16/17 of the lower axillary lymph. After surgical operation, she received radiotherapy and chemotherapy. When she was ready for the third chemotherapy, the number of her white blood cells reduced to 1700 units from the 4500 units when she just entered the hospital, which did not conform to the chemotherapy indication.         Mrs. Zhang, an eighty-one years old retired teacher in Yuhang, Hangzhou, received confirmed diagnosis from our provincial cancer hospital that she got advanced breast cancer with the diameter of the tumor as 4 centimeters. The hospital advised her to receive immediate surgery but Teacher Zhang did not want to repeat the failure of her younger sister who died of reoccurrence of breast cancer after the surgical operation. So she insisted on seeing traditional Chinese medical doctors. Later on, she was introduced to us by her friends and accompanied by her son and daughter-in-law to our hospital. After taking the traditional Chinese medicine for 2 courses of treatment (one course of treatment lasts for 60 days), she received B-ultrasonic examination in Yuhang Hospital and the result showed that the diameter of the tumor had softened and contracted into 2.2 centimeters. With the turning better of the disease, the mental status and diet of Teacher Zhang also both returned to normal.

        Mrs. Zhou, a sixty-two year's old retired teacher from Zhejiang University, had the disease of mammary gland hyperplasia with aneurysm for more than ten years. She had taken traditional Chinese medicine and western medicine from many major hospitals in Hangzhou for many years but still could not get the development of the disease under control. Then she found that the left breast swelled obviously, and the nipple sunk. Due to the serious status of her disease, the surgeons in The Second Hospital of Zhejiang suggested immediate operation. But the patient refused. She was introduced by her colleagues to our hospital on August 4th, 2001. After taking the medicine for 60 days, the bumps in both breasts became obviously softer and smaller, and the nipple of the left breast stuck out naturally. After eight months of continuous taking of the traditional Chinese medicine, the bumps in the breasts were all dissolved and the bigger left breast returned to normal.

        Mrs. Pang, a patient of forty-nine years old from Shihua, Zhenhai, Ningbo. On May 20th, 2005, she found outside her left breast there was a tumor as big as a hickory, hard, and with irregular edges. So she went to Ningbo Li Huili Hospital for diagnosis. The examination made by the Color Doppler B-scan concluded that she got left mammary mass. After the pathological diagnosis, there were a lot of cancer cells in the picture. So it was infiltrative carcinoma. The doctors asked her to live in the hospital to receive surgery. This really struck the patient and her whole family as a body blow, and the whole family were suddenly falling into such an atmosphere as if dense and black clouds covered and were about to destroy the whole city. What should they do? Where should they go? The patient and her family members all knew the consequences of treating breast cancer with operation and chemotherapy from reality. Therefore, they asked a lot of people to help them look for the experts who could treat breast cancer with traditional Chinese medicine and pharmacology. They consulted Beijing, Xi'an, Luoyang, Jinhua and our researching institute. On May 25th, Mrs. Pang came to our hospital accompanied by her husband. Our diagnosis result was the same as that in Li Huili Hospital. So we prescribed traditional medicine of half a course of treatment (30 days) for internal and external application, and we also suggested her refusing any visit from relatives or friends during her taking of our medicine. Pang Quanzhen came to us for reexamination on June 23rd, 2005 and the results showed that the left mammary tumor was obviously softer and smaller with other indexes also normal. On October 22nd, Pang Quanzhen came to us again for examination. This time the results showed that two thirds of the left mammary tumor had dissolved. The patient was in tremendous happiness and introduced two other patients having mammary gland cystic hyperplasia to our hospital. According to the examination on December 18th, the left mammary tumor was as small as a grain. She called us the day before yesterday and said she herself now could not feel the inner bump and planned to come to our institute for reexamination after taking the small amount of the medicine left over. (Note: On March 9th, 2006, Mrs. Pang received the confirmed diagnosis from Ningbo Li Huili Hospital that her left mammary tumor was completely dissolved and she was cured.)

        The middle stage of breast cancer is actually a very dangerous period during which the patients should receive treatment as soon as possible.
        Below are the symptoms usually appearing in the middle stage of breast cancers:

        1. Pain in mammary glands: Although pain in mammary glands can appear in many kinds of mammary gland diseases, pain is not the common symptoms for breast cancers. Most of the benign and malignant tumors are always painless. Some studies showed that those women who have painful mammary glands with incrassation during menopause were more liable to have breast cancer. Of course the patient will feel painful due to swelling or oppression of the inflammation of the tumors. In the advanced stage if the tumors invade nerves or the swelling axillary lymph nodes oppress or invade the brachial plexus, the patients may feel glutted pain in the shoulders.

        2. The swelling of the axillary lymph nodes：The further development of breast cancer may invade the lymph gland and transfer to the local lymphatic drainage area. Among them, the most common parts for lymphatic metastasis are the ipsilateral axillary lymph nodes.

        3. The changing of skin：Breast cancer can cause the changes of skin which are related to the location, deepness and extent of invasion of the tumors. There are usually skin adhesion, skin superficial varicose veins, rubefaction, and skin edema, etc.

        4. Nipple discharge：There are physiological and pathological nipple discharges. The physiological nipple discharge usually appears in gestation and lactation, while the pathologic nipple discharge is the secretion of fluids of mammary glands under non-physiological conditions. The symptom of breast cancer we usually mention is the latter one.

        5. The abnormity of nipples and areolas: Nipples may become flat, retracted or sunk and even completely contracted under the areolas. Sometimes the patients in the middle stage of breast cancer may see their breast lift entirely and the nipples on both sides are not in the same horizontal plane. Papillary erosion is also a typical symptom for breast cancer. Some parts of the skin may show inflammation in inflammatory breast cancer: the color changes from light red to dark red, and at first the inflammation is confined, but soon expand to most part of the mammary skin accompanied with edema, incrassation, and roughing of the skin. The superficial temperature of the skin also goes up.

        In the middle stage of breast cancer the cancer cells of the patient will gradually proliferate and develop, and the average occult stage of breast cancer cells is 90 days. Before the tumor can be detected through clinical methods, the average hidden period of the tumors is 12 years (6 – 20 years). It is known that the breast cancer in the middle stage can develop in the following methods: local expansion, lymphatic spread, and hematogenous dissemination. If the breast cancer receives no treatment or the medicine is of no effect, the cancer will gradually invade the following regions: lymph glands, stones, lungs, livers, brains, and pleural cavity, which could lead to pericardial effusion, high calcium, and spinal cord compression。
